| This past January I was commissioned by Dr. David
Harrison to design and build a sign for his new location at 222 Washington
Street in Gloucester. Dr. Harrison’s desire was to display more
than his name on a board. He came to me for an artistic approach, something
unique that would also reflect Gloucester and the community as well as
his dental business. The concept we finally agreed upon is to represent the tooth as a precious object. I conceived this could be accomplished by placing a tooth into an oyster shell, essentially the idea of replacing a pearl with a tooth. The tooth would become a precious object to be cherished and taken care of while the shell would symbolize Gloucester and the vast ocean surrounding and intertwined with our great community. |
